Welcome back to our Glaring Team Needs series! Its time to pull three random teams from the NFL pool and find where their personnel is lacking. The 2nd week of preseason is upon us and it feels real good to have football back. As excited as we are to have it back, its important to remember that it is still preseason and most likely has little bearing on the actual season. Remember, Detroit won all its preseason games the year they went winless and the Colts, a perennial playoff contender, are perennial preseason losers. Its still darn fun to watch though, right? Lets take a look at the rosters of the Lions, Colts, and Buccaneers.
2. Indianapolis Colts - Biggest Need: DT I thought there might be another position that might stick out, but the Colts are young at LB and DB depth wise and they have used recent draft picks on the offensive line and skill positions. DT Drake Nevis is a recent draft pick, but he is similar to ever other DT on the roster in that he is a smaller, quick penetration type and some girth could go a long way on that line. 2012 Draft Pick:
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Biggest Need: CB Tampa Bay has done a really good job of revamping their defense by spending a lot of draft picks on the front seven and could stand to move that focus to the defensive backfield. I mean, Ronde Barber can only play for about 5 more years right? Talib has had a few run ins with the law in his short career and these days, it helps to be three deep at corner. 2012 Draft Pick: Chase Minnifield, CB Virginia - A big corner that can hang with bigger receivers and fits well into the zone concepts run in Tampa.
