This is former Alabama coach Gene Stallings and former Auburn coach Pat Dye sitting on the beach at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Below is a conversation they might be having while sitting buried in sand (for a commercial for Gulf Shores tourism, but they might not know that, and that is crucial for our story here.)
"Not wearin' a hat, Gene?"
"Don't need it. The sun gives me strength."
"Sun's gonna make you thirsty, Gene. Can't you taste that water right over there? That water, waiting right over there?"
"Gonna get my water from the air. I'm like a great mangrove, Pat. Hurricanes won't move me."
"They didn't in the 1993 Sugar Bowl, that's for sure."
"You flatter to distract. But you know I'm still gonna win this, Pat."
"To hell with you, Gene. This game is mine."
"Wait, what is the point of this game, Pat? And how did we end up here buried to our waists in the sand?"
"I don't know, Gene...but I'll be damned if I'm going to lose it to you."
"So it is, Pat. So it is."
