Barcelona vs. Chivas De Guadalajara, International Friendly: Chivas Demolish Barcelona 4-1

What a turnaround for Chivas de Guadalajara. After making threatening noises for the first half but ultimately failing to trouble Jose Manuel Pinto overmuch, the goats came out with a vengeance in the second half, putting four goals past a startled Barcelona en route to a 4-1 rout.

This shouldn't have happened. Barcelona scored in the first ten minutes thanks to a David Villa goal, hit the crossbar twice in the first half, and introduced the likes of Pedro, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in the second half. Indeed, they dominated the first fifteen minutes of that period as well. And then Michael Fabian stole the show in a big, big way.

His first goal was a stunning long-range effort, but even that paled in comparison to his second strike, an absolutely wonderful overhead kick from a right-sided cross that made the score 2-1 Chivas in the 64th minute. Barcelona looked liked they were going to regroup, only to go behind even further thanks to a Giovanni Casillas goal and then down 4-1 in injury time.

So, a 4-1 loss for Barcelona. That was... unexpected. Tomorrow's headlines in Spain will be deeply, deeply amusing.
