Glaring NFL Team Needs

Welcome back to our Glaring Team Needs series! Every week we are going to pick three teams at random and briefly look for any holes we can find in their roster. Every team is in camp, but its still pretty early and most (all) are shaking off a little rust. Last week was three random NFC teams and this week we look at three AFC teams: Broncos, Patriots, and Steelers

1. Denver Broncos - Biggest Need: DT Denver is a franchise in transition. NFL/Team legend John Elway has taken over operations. John Fox replaces McDaniels as head coach. Even the roster has not been safe from transition as there are many new faces. However, it seems they have over looked the defensive tackle position. The Broncos official site lists no depth chart, but it would look like Ty Warren and Marcus Thomas would start and there is not much behind them. DT has been a deep position the past two years, an average of seven have been taken in the top 50 picks, but not so in 2012. Plenty of time for that to change, but there are currently only three in the Top 50 of the 2012 Top 100 Prospects. 2012 Draft Pick: Alameda Ta'amu, DT Washington A 6'3'' 330 nose tackle who moves well for a tackle, but needs to develop better play recognition and staying low out of his stance.

2. New England Patriots - Biggest Need: Pass Rush The Patriots made a big splash early in free agency when they traded for Albert Haynesworth and the talk around beat writers and various sports outlets was Belichick was moving his defense into a 4-3 look. I am sure he got a chuckle out of that because the only difference between a 3-4 and a 4-3 for him is whether or not the pass rusher starts with his hand in the dirt. Jermaine Cunningham plays OLB in NE, but played 4-3 DE at Florida and could be a part of that transition, but there isn't much else. And there wasn't much when they were playing 3-4 last season. Who knows what the Hoodie has in store, but I think its safe to say he will go for a versatile pass rusher. 2012 Draft Pick: Brandon Jenkins, OLB/DE Florida State Great up field rusher, but needs to develop more moves and strength.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers - Biggest Need: OT In Pro Football Focus's 2010 Team Pass Protection Rankings the Steelers came in dead last. According to NFL.com's Offensive Lines Stats, they ranked 25th. Now there are some extenuating circumstances such as Big Ben's penchant for hanging onto the football, but they could still use another high draft pick on offensive line talent. Even after drafting Maurkice Pouncey and Marcus Gilbert in the past two years. 2012 Draft Pick: Riley Reiff, OT Iowa. Has the nasty disposition associated with the Steelers and comes from a great pedigree at Iowa.
