Mikel Leshoure's Injury Is 'Huge Blow To Lions Offense'

The injury to RB Mikel Leshoure is as a bad as we thought it could be -- torn Achilles' tendon. Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has already announced that Leshoure will miss the entire 2011-12 season which is about as disappointing news as you can get for Lions fans.

I noted that losing Leshoure was a major blow to the Lions and SB Nation's Pride of Detroit agrees calling it a "terrible" situation.

There's no spinning this news. It's a huge blow to the Lions' offense. While Jahvid Best is a solid running back, Leshoure was expected to bring some added explosiveness to the backfield. All of the reports about his play during camp so far have been very positive, and to lose him for the year before a game is even played is a terrible thing.

I'm not a Lions fan but they're the type of team I was rooting for in 2011 because, after all they've been through the last two decades, it finally appeared they were turning the corner and making a legitimate run at the playoffs.

That can certainly still happen but the road just got a little tougher.
