Kevin Millwood Signs With Colorado Rockies

Kevin Millwood is 36 years old and had a good season for the Texas Rangers in 2009, throwing 198 innings and posting an ERA of 3.69 and an ERA+ of 127.

Then he was one of the worst starters in the American League in 2010, leading the league in losses with 16 and having his ERA+ drop to 82, with the Orioles. Thus, he had to settle for a minor league deal with the Yankees, while watching pitchers like Doug Davis, Rodrigo Lopez and Ramon Ortiz get major league starts. He had the right to opt out of that deal and did so after a start for Double-A Trenton and two for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

He signed a similar deal with the Red Sox and again, opted out after 13 starts, having posted a 4.28 ERA.

Today, via Troy Renck of the Denver Post, we learn that he may be in the Colorado Rockies' rotation this week:

Rockies have signed millwood i have learned There's a chance he could start Wednesday

Millwood has twice finished in the top six in Cy Young voting and is younger than some other released veterans who have made major league starts this season. He and the Rockies may show other teams that it was a mistake to overlook him all year.
