The New England Patriots placed newly signed defensive linemen Shaun Ellis on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Monday afternoon, according to reports by NFL beat reporter Aaron Wilson. No explanation has been given by the notoriously tight-lipped franchise, however rumors are circulating that the move was done to rest Ellis' left knee, which is still recovering from an injury sustained during the 2010-2011 NFL campaign.
Reports from New England indicate that the 34-year-old former-New York Jet was present in Patriots camp Monday morning, "in t-shirts and shorts for the workout, working with the strength and conditioning staff in the Dana Farber Fieldhouse." ESPN Patriots beat reporter Mike Reiss further explained that Ellis "can start practicing at any time," and the decision is currently at the team's discretion despite his sore knee.
