San Diego State had a great season in the Mountain West and returns to the NCAA Tournament.
Though the San Diego St. Aztecs had a very rough three-game run in February, they have otherwise been an extremely consistent team with a lot of quality wins on its resume. Their 26-7 overall record and 10-4 record in the Mountain West -- good enough for a split title -- had them in the NCAA tournament before their conference tournament started. As the No. 6 seed, they'll face No. 11 North Carolina State in their first game.
Their only two non-conference losses were against other NCAA tournament teams, Baylor and Creighton. They hold solid non-conference wins over Arizona, California and Long Beach State. In conference, they split their games against UNLV, New Mexico and Colorado State, the other teams who finished above .500 in the Mountain West.
In the Mountain West Tournament, the Aztecs beat Boise State and Colorado State, but lost to New Mexico in the final. They are a No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament and will face N.C. State in the second round.
Big sophomore guard Jamaal Franklin is SDSU's star, and he leads the team in both scoring and rebounding. He's complemented by Tim Shelton, Chase Tapley and Xavier Thames on a relatively small, but quick, team that plays at a high tempo.
