The Murray St. Racers have one blemish on their 2011-12 record. Just one: a 72-68 loss to the Tennessee St. Tigers on Feb. 9.
The Murray St. Racers have one blemish on their 2011-12 record. Just one: a 72-68 loss to the Tennessee St. Tigers on Feb. 9. Perfection could have been the Racers' if not for that bump in the road. But that was all it was. The Racers will head into the 2012 NCAA Tournament with a 30-1 record and an Ohio Valley Tournament championship.
The Racers missed out on the 2011 NCAA Tournament and entered the 2011-12 season with a new head coach, Steve Prohm, after Billy Kennedy left for the Texas A&M Aggies. The results, obviously, were immediate and far beyond what anyone expected. As a result, he was named the OVC Coach of the Year.
But behind every great coach there must be some great players. Isaiah Canaan led the team with 19.2 points and was followed by Donte Poole and his 14.2 points, providing the bulk of the team's 74.2 points per game (41st in the nation).
Murray State earned a No. 6 seed in the West Region, despite a strong season that included just one loss. The Racers will face Colorado State in the Second Round.
