The Brigham Young Cougars are going dancing after their first season in the West Coast Conference and the first season of the post-Jimmer Fredette era. No one quite knew what to make of the Cougars at the beginning of the year because Fredette was so much of their team last year, but they proved quickly they were very capable of earning an at-large bid for their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Cougars' season started with a thud after losing to in-state rivals Utah State, but they responded by winning 11 of their next 13 games, losing only to Baylor and Wisconsin in that stretch. The only problem for the Cougars this season is they kept losing to very good teams, failing to break through against any of them until a Feb. 2 win against Gonzaga.
After an opening round win against San Diego, the Cougars lost to Gonzaga in the WCC tournament, but after a 25-8 record, 12-4 in the conference, the Cougars are going dancing.
BYU earned a No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will take on early darling Iona in a First Four matchup. The winner moves on to face Marquette in the Second Round.
