The Belmont Bruins' 2011-2012 season started with a bang. The Bruins took a Top-10 Duke team down to the wire, eventually losing by a single point, signaling to the country that they were a team to be reckoned with. Though there have been bumps along the road, Belmont proved by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference that they remained that team throughout.
The Bruins enter March Madness on a phenomenal hot streak, winning their last 14 games and, in the process, capturing the Atlantic Sun regular season and tournament championships. They finished the season 27-7 and beat East Tennessee State and Florida Gulf Coast in the tournament to cap off their objectively terrific season. As the No. 14 seed in the Midwest, they'll face No. 3 Georgetown in the second round.
They're led by a dynamic point guard in Kerron Johnson, who averaged 14.1 points and 5.2 assists in the regular season while shooting 52.6 percent from the field. He's the general of the nation's fourth highest scoring offense. He should be fun watch in March Madness, where the Bruins could be a good candidate for an upset.
