The Iona Gaels are proving that they deserved their NCAA Tournament at-large bid, but the BYU Cougars aren't completely out of the game. Iona led by as many as 24 points in the first half, but BYU closed with a 9-0 run to get Iona's lead down to something manageable. The Gaels are in control, however, and they lead 55-40 at halftime.
Iona's been able to push an extremely fast pace by rotating players constantly, and BYU has had to dip deep into their bench to keep up. Sean Armand is one of two Gaels in double figures, and he hasn't missed a shot from the floor.
Scott Machado has also been a top performer for Iona. Here is a summary of his first half performance.
He's dished out nine assists, and also has seven points on 3-3 shooting. Iona is shooting 58 percent from the floor, and that's with a scoreless final five minutes of the first half. They were well over 60 percent shooting for most of the half.
