The No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats reminded the world why many have them as favorites in the 2012 NCAA tournament. After skirmishing with the No. 16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers for the opening minutes of their opening-round game in the South region, the Wildcats have pulled far away, sitting on a 45-26 halftime lead.
Terrence Jones was in beast mode for the Wildcats, dunking and generally creating havoc for the Hilltoppers defense. He finished the first 20 minutes of play with 15 points and five rebounds. Doron Lamb was right behind him with 14 points and four rebounds.
The Wildcats hit 61.5 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half, versus just 31.3 percent for the Hilltoppers. T.J. Price has done the bulk of the work for Western Kentucky, notching 16 points and four rebounds before the break.
The winner of this game will play the winner of the matchup between the No. 8 Iowa St. Cyclones and No. 9 Connecticut Huskies.
