The No. 13-seeded New Mexico State Aggies were able to keep it close in the first half with the No. 4-seeded Indiana Hoosiers, but in the second half, the Hoosiers poured on the points and pulled away to a 79-66 win. A big reason for the big second half by Indiana was Big 10 freshman of the year Cody Zeller. Zeller only finished up the game with 14 points and 5 rebounds, but he also picked up 6 steals. Zeller's presence in the paint opened it up for guys like Jordan Hulls to pick up 22 points, including four of six from the three-point line.
The Aggies kept is respectable early on, but just couldn't slow down the Indiana offense. Wendell McKines led New Mexico State in scoring with 15 points and 7 rebounds. From the bench, Bandja Sy scored 12 points while Daniel Mullings added 10. The Aggies struggled all night to slow down Indiana from the three-point line as the Hoosiers shot 53.8 percent from beyond the arc.
