In the final game of the first day of the Second Round in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, No. 11 Colorado sprang a surprise on No. 6 UNLV in the first half, then weathered the Runnin' Rebels' rally in the second half for a 68-64 win for just the second upset of the tournament so far.
Andre Roberson had 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Buffaloes, who built a 20-point lead in the second half. Askia Booker added 16 for Colorado off the bench, and Austin Dufault and Carlon Brown combined for 26 points.
But UNLV nearly pulled off a stirring comeback after trailing by 16 with just more than eight minutes left. The Runnin' Rebels ripped off a 14-1 run to close to within two points with 4:24 to go, but went cold for the rest of the night, making just two more three pointers in the final minute and never wrestling the lead from Colorado. Mike Moser and Chace Stanback, UNLV's star duo, combined for just 18 points on a miserable 7-for-27 shooting.
Colorado's victory earns the Buffs a date with No. 3 Baylor on Saturday.
