John Henson Injury: UNC Forward Won't Play In NCAA Tournament Opener

Stay connected with SB Nation

North Carolina forward John Henson will not play in the Tar Heels' NCAA Tournament opener against Vermont on Friday because of a persisting sprained wrist injury. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by freshman James McAdoo.

Henson, the ACC's defensive player of the year, suffered the injury when he was fouled hard by Maryland's Ashton Pankey in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. He did not play in UNC's semifinal win over NC State or championship game loss to Florida State.

Without Henson, North Carolina managed just a single blocked shot in the ACC Tournament games against the Wolfpack and Seminoles. The junior from Tampa is averaging 13.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game this season.
