The Florida Gators kept the Virginia Cavaliers at arms length throughout the second half, gradually pulling away to earn a 71-45 win and advance to the third round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Gators got 41 points from their bench, allowing them to remain efficient down the stretch while the Cavaliers, who got 15 points from non-starters, faded.
Of course, Florida got plenty of help from familiar names too. Bradley Beal had double-double, picking up 14 points and 11 assists, while committing just two turnovers. Patric Young had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Casey Prather came off the bench to add 14 points and four boards.
The Cavaliers did not have the scoring depth to keep up with the Gators, with only one player reaching double digits. Mike Scott scored seven points after halftime to lead the Cavaliers with 15 points along with six rebounds. The next highest scorers were Jontel Evans and Sammy Zeglinski with eight points respectively.
