As we wait for the official inactive list from the Giants, Nicks has been expected to play. We break down the fantasy implications.
New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks traveled with the team to San Francisco this weekend, with many speculating that he will be active although we can't know that for certain until before game time. Nicks has not played a full season in his NFL career and this will be no different now that he has missed three games already in 2012 with knee and foot injuries.
The Giants star receiver had 444 yards in the playoffs last year but has only played in half that many games in 2012 so far, with 237 yards. If he plays, he'll be facing the 49ers number one scoring defense and number two passing defense.
Fantasy Take: Look at the evidence and then decide whether or not Nicks is a good start even if he is activated by New York. He is coming off of a knee injury, he's facing the 49ers on the road, and he had 199 of his yards this season in one game against Tampa Bay where everyone was going off.
If you have Nicks, then you've already been playing without him and would have a backup option in case he isn't able to go. Unless your other option is very bad, I wouldn't recommend throwing Nicks into the fire just yet. The 49ers are allowing an average of one passing touchdown per game and Victor Cruz is still an attractive option for Eli Manning.
