There were big winners at the NFL Combine, like defensive tackle Dontari Poe. And there were also losers, like Vontaze Burfict. We break down a few of the top winners and losers after a week in Indianapolis.

Baylor Bears wide receiver Kendall Wright did not impress quite as much at the 2012 NFL Combine as did his teammate, quarterback Robert Griffin III. In the 40-yard dash in Indianapolis this past weekend, Griffin clocked in at 4.41 seconds. Although Wright's 4.61 may seem a bit sluggish by comparison, the early indication is that his time has not negatively impacted his value prior to the 2012 NFL Draft.
Introducing the SB Nation YouTube Channel | Subscribe Now | Follow @SBNStudios
Charlie Bernstein of ESPN Florida reports that while Wright may have wanted a lower time during the Combine, NFL scouts are well aware of the prospect's abilities beyond what they saw at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"Kendall Wright plays much faster than he was clocked," one league source said. "We're not concerned at all."
A prominent NFL general manager explained the use of Combine times and Pro Days.
"This is just another piece of information in a grand assessment of a player. We hope to see that the times back up what we see on film," the GM explained.
Wright will still figure to be a first-round draft pick and one of the top wide receivers in this year's class, despite the perception that he may have underperformed in Indianapolis.

The 2012 NFL Combine has come and gone. NFL scouts, coaches and GMs spent a week in Indianapolis getting to know the 2012 NFL draft class and we recap all the action.

Morris Claiborne didn't do anything particularly eye-popping at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, but he also met expectations to hold off his competitors. Both Dre Kirkpatrick and Janoris Jenkins also put together solid workouts across the entire day, but neither of them were able to blow away the other nor Claiborne. Jenkins was able to beat Claiborne in the 40-yard dash, but Kirkpatrick was not.
The three players were basically inseparable across all of the combine drills, meaning that Claiborne's stock isn't going to change at all. With all measurables virtually equal to his nearest competitors, Claiborne should be the first corner selected in the 2012 NFL Draft. He's currently No. 4 overall on Mocking The Draft's board.

In what seems to be recurring theme at the 2012 NFL Combine, another largely unknown player has excelled. This time, it's Arizona State product Omar Bolden turning in the best bench-press performance among defensive backs. Bolden was able bench 225 pounds, 24 times. Bolden was one of 10 DBs to clock at least 20 reps, as Oklahoma's Jamell Fleming came in second with 23.
Fleming, it should be noted, was the only DB to get at least 20 reps who is really considered a top prospect. Although SB Nation's latest mock draft does not have him going in the first round, Mocking The Draft does have him rated as the fifth best cornerback prospect. Flemming also finished his four-year college career with some solid numbers during his junior and senior years, making seven interceptions and knocking down 24 passes.
Admittedly, the bench press is probably not the best measurement of a DB's skills. While strength is obviously a positive trait, most coaches and scouts are probably more interested in speed and agility.
Ever heard of Josh Robinson? Unless you're a NFL Draft geek, chances are you haven't. After the University of Central Florida cornerback clocked the fastest time in the 40 at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, that's likely to change.
Robinson turned in a blazing time of 4.33, just edging out LSU cornerback Ron Brooks who clocked in at 4.37. They were the only two players to break the 4.4 mark and only 2 of 9 to be clocked in better than 4.50.
So, who is Josh Robinson? Well, he's not someone SB Nation has picked as going in the first round of our Mock Draft. Mocking The Draft doesn't even have him ranked in their Top 100 draft prospects and has him as the 17th best prospect at cornerback.
In three years at Central Florida, Robinson posted solid, but unspectacular numbers. After making six interceptions his freshman year, he had a total of four during his final two years. He did make 48 tackles and break up 15 passes his junior year and at 5-foot-10, 192 pounds seems to have the kind of size that would translate to the NFL. It will be interesting to see how his combine performance affects his stock.
Tuesday is the final day of the 2012 NFL Combine, and it's the day that the defensive backs are running and doing their position drills. Some of the defensive backs surprised with their 40-yard dash times, while a couple disappointed. Guys like LSU's Morris Claiborne, who's expected to be a Top 5 pick, ran slower than most expected with an initial 40-yard dash in the 4.5 range, but rebounded in his second run with an unofficial 4.47 time.
Here are your best performers in the 40-yard dash of the early group. These times are unofficial:
Some other notable names who ran some rather disappointing times include Nebraska's Alfonzo Dennard, with a 4.51, and Iowa State's Leonard Johnson, who ran a 4.65. One player who's drawn a lot of interest because of his 6'4 and 225 pound frame is Boise State safety George Iloka. The former Bronco ran a 4.59, which is great for a player of his size.

Monday at the 2012 NFL Combine saw some defensive linemen and linebackers show off some incredible athleticism while other raised question marks. Mychal Kendricks out of California was the fastest of the group with a 4.47 40-yard dash time, while top 3-4 OLB prospect Bruce Irvin and top MLB prospect Luke Kuechly, also impressed. Melvin Ingram and Quinton Coples showed why they could be good fits for multiple systems while Vontaze Burfict hurt his stock. Here are some of the best performers in the 40-yard dash.
And here are some of the other notable times.

One of the breakout stars of the 2012 NFL Combine appears to be Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly. After an impressive three-year college career that saw him break the NCAA record for tackles (532), he has bolstered his stock by turning in a 4.50 40-yard time and a 38-inch vertical leap.
Mocking The Draft already ranked Kuechly as their No. 1 linebacker prospect even before the combine. The big question is where he'll be drafted. The latest SB Nation Mock Draft has him going at No. 11 to the Kansas City Chiefs, explaining it this way:
The Chiefs were close to breaking the top 10 in total defense in 2011, and the addition of Kuechly next to Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson could get them over that hump.
If the Chiefs skip on Kuechly, the next most likely team to take him might be the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 15, as they could really use some help in the middle of their defense.

Some players are having a better NFL Combine than others. A guy like Luke Kuechly, linebacker out of Boston College, is showing his athleticism and speed so the Combine is helping him more than anything.
Other guys, like Vontaze Burfict, aren't doing so well.
Burfict came into the Combine at 248 pounds, which is a little lighter than he normally plays. You'd think losing that weight would help his speed but that wasn't the case. He ran the 40-yard dash in unofficial times of 4.93 and 5.10 seconds. That's not a good time, not at all. Dontari Poe, a 346-pound defensive tackle, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds. That's about a 100-pound difference between the two and they have similar speed.
He was also last in the broad jump among linebackers and second to last in the vertical leap. He has a lot to be desired in these workout numbers.
Burfict was once thought of as a first-round pick but character concerns along with poor test numbers are killing his draft stock. NFL Network's Mike Mayock noted during the Combine that, with all the character stuff to the side, he's still not a fan of Burfict based solely on the tape.
It hasn't been a great week for the Arizona State linebacker. The question is how many teams pass on him in April.

Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe is a potential first round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but just how high he'll go is the question. Poe has done nothing in the 2012 NFL Combine to hurt his draft stock testing out very well in almost all of the drills. The 6-foot, 4-inch, 346-pound defensive lineman put up 44 reps of 225 pounds at the combine, the most out of any other player.
Not only did Poe display his upper body strength, but he showed just how nimble he could be at 346 pounds running a 4.98 unofficial 40-yard dash time. So, not only could the man lift a lot of weight often, he could also move rather quickly. There is some talk a team like the Kansas City Chiefs could consider Poe as high as No. 11 in the draft to fill their need at the nose tackle position. With Poe's athleticism, however, he's not just limited to being a nose tackle and has drawn comparisons to Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Haloti Ngata.

North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples is expected to be a top 10 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and he did nothing in the drills to damage that belief. The 6'5", 285-pounder ran an unofficial 4.72 40-yard dash, including a 1.63 10-yard split. By comparison, the 1.63 10-yard split is just 0.03 seconds slower than the 10-yard split of Oregon Ducks running back LeMichael James.
Coples also put down a 31.5" vertical jump, which is about average. Adding that do his 6'6" frame means he can block a lot of passing lanes like he did in the Senior Bowl. Coples recorded an 8'9" jump in the broad jump.
SB Nation's Mocking The Draft thought Coples looked like more of a 4-3 end than a 3-4 end in his drills.
I felt that Quinton Coples struggled a little bit with stiff hips. But he's a long guy that typically do struggle with that sort of thing. I don't think he'll be picked by a 3-4 team. I see him as a 4-3 defensive end.
South Carolina's Melvin Ingram also looked very fluid in his drills, running a 4.66 40-yard dash after measuring in at just over 6'1" and 264 pounds. Ingram also put up 28 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press while looking very nimble and athletic in the stand-up drills, furthering the belief that he can play in the NFL either with his hand on the ground or standing up.

The NFL Combine has some awards inside the workouts, but they're just pride awards. Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe walked away with one of those awards, as he put up 44 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, leaving the NFL Combine as the "strongest man." Poe treated it like a competition too, "I'm doing everything," Poe said at the Combine. "It's just competition. I like it. I like it all. I've been working out for it and just thought it'd be a good idea to do it all."
Michigan center David Molk, who came up right behind Poe with 41 reps, said before the combine he planned to beat Stephen Paea's record from last year, which still stands at 49. BYU nose tackle Loni Fangupo was the next closest to the top two with 36 reps.

David Wilson was one of the top running back prospects heading into the NFL combine and was labeled as a potential first-round pick. Though his 40-yard dash time was not stunning, it was certainly above average and in line with what he was expected to do. His performance in some of the other drills was extremely impressive, however. In the 20-yard shuttle, 60-yard shuttle, vertical jump and broad jump, he was among the combine's top performers at the running back position.
SB Nation's NFL Draft blog Mocking The Draft currently has Wilson as the No. 25 overall player on their board. He could go off the board near the bottom of the first round of the draft, where the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers are among the teams that could conceivably take a running back if they felt the player was a good fit.

After the first day of the workout section of the NFL Combine, all anyone could talk about was Robert Griffin III's blistering pair of 40-yard dashes.
While everyone knew the Heisman Trophy winner, who finished third in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships, was fast, no one expected him to post a 4.38 and a 4.41. Michael Vick is the only QB to have run a faster 40 in Combine history.
Griffin's time overshadowed a tremendous 40 from Andrew Luck. Luck, despite being seen as more of a pocket passer at 6'4 235, ran a 4.67, fourth best among QB's, and only .02 seconds slower than LSU's Jordan Jefferson, one of the most athletic QB's in the country.
The big winner Sunday among the WR's was Georgia Tech's Stephen Hill, who may be the next deep threat from Paul Johnson's offense to become a first-round pick despite rarely getting the ball in the triple option.
Hill, who measured at 6'4 215, posted times of 4.30 and 4.31 in the 40, instantly making him a candidate to be the second WR in the draft behind Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon, a two-time Biletnikoff Award winner who did not participate in any of the Combine workouts.
And while Griffin was the big winner Sunday, his Baylor teammate, WR Kendall Wright, may have been the big loser.
At only 5'10 190, he was widely thought of as one of the best deep threats among this year's WR class, but he posted a lackluster 4.61 time, which may end up him keeping him out of the first round.
Travis Benjamin out of Miami, Chris Owusu out of Stanford, and Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech shared fastest-man honors at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, posting 4.36-second runs in the 40-yard dash on Sunday. Just behind them, Illinois' A.J. Jenkins and Fresno State's Devon Wylie came in at 4.39 to round out the top five.
Notre Dame's Michael Floyd also performed well with a time of 4.47 seconds. Kendall Wright and Mohamed Sanu weren't quite as quick, finishing in the bottom ten of those who ran with times of 4.61 and 4.67, respectively. You can check out the full results below:

Sunday is a big day for the 2012 NFL Combine since it's when the offensive skill positions work out. The 40-yard dash is one measurable in particular that can mean boom or bust for an NFL hopeful.
The running backs posted official 40 times on Sunday, which are all listed below.
No one broke the 4.40 barrier, but Miami's Lamar Miller came closest, hitting that mark on the head with a running back-best 4.40, LaMichael James also helped himself with a 4.45 time -- tied for second-best among running backs.

Quarterbacks showed up well in the 40-yard dash at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, though none better than Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III out of Baylor. With a time of 4.41 seconds, he posted the second fastest 40 of any quarterback at the combine in the last 12 years, with Texas A&M's Reggie McNeal barely holding onto the top spot with his 4.40-second run during the 2005 Combine.
Also having a nice day was Wisconsin's Russell Wilson, whose 4.55-second run should help make up for criticisms about his height.
Darron Thomas did not perform so well. His decision to enter the NFL Draft with another year of eligibility left was criticized from the get-go, and after recording a 4.80 on Sunday, he will have a harder time selling himself as a dual-threat to prospective pro teams. The NFL Draft Combine has lost its luster over the years because a lot of the top prospects don't fully participate in all of the drills. NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock called out Robert Griffin III and his decision not to throw this week, and unsurprisingly, the Baylor Bears quarterback was ready with a solid answer.
Griffin III alluded that it was simply because he wouldn't have any chemistry with the players he was throwing to, saying he'd rather help out his own wide receivers during the Baylor pro day, according to the transcription provided by Pro Football Talk.
"I thought it was in my best interests not to come and throw to guys I haven't thrown to before, running a game plan I'm not familiar with, and in an environment that I'm not prepared for," Griffin said in response to a question from host Rich Eisen regarding the decision not to show off a multi-million-dollar arm. "So I'll do it at my Pro Day, it kind of helps out the guys at Baylor that are coming out, they can get more scouts there and watch us do our thing."
It's probably not the answer everyone was hoping for, but it does make sense. It doesn't hurt that Griffin III was impressive in the drills he did take part in, either.

After watching Robert Griffin III post the second-fastest 40-yard dash time for a quarterback in the last 25 years just two hours earlier, Andrew Luck, who is trying to stave off Griffin as the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft in April, posted an impressive time of his own, running his 40 in 4.59 seconds in his second attempt.
If that time, which is unofficial until every quarterback runs, holds up, it would tie Jordan Jefferson as the third-fastest quarterback in this year's NFL Scouting Combine. We knew Luck was athletic after his spectacular one-handed grab this season, but that time is in Cam Newton territory from the combine last year. Luck hasn't shown the running vision of Newton, but he'll be able to scramble very effectively for the Indianapolis Colts, or whoever else takes him in the draft.

Robert Griffin III's putting on a show at the 2012 NFL Combine, and his exhibition has included a blistering pair of 40-yard dashes that have him ranked among the fastest quarterbacks in recent Combine history. But NFL Network showing Griffin running "against" a ghost version of Cam Newton from the 2011 NFL Combine gives a sense of just how fast the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor is.
Newton's obviously bigger, but Griffin's speed is simply phenomenal.
Of course, he's unlikely to be the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, because Andrew Luck exists. And Luck's doing his own level best in the Combine's physical drills. Here he is jumping high in the air:
...and here he is jumping more than 10 feet in the broad jump.

Every year, there's at least one player who comes into the NFL Scouting Combine and blows all their draft projections out of the water with a terrific workout. Early in the day when quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs are being evaluated, Georgia Tech's Stephen Hill is certainly one of those guys.
Hill is 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, but only had 28 catches in his senior season at Georgia Tech because of the Yellow Jackets' notorious triple-option offense. He did have more than 800 yards in those catches, so we knew he had some speed, but this is just ridiculous:
That's Hill running a 4.30 40-yard dash, the fastest clocked at the combine so far. He ran a 4.31 on his second attempt, so that wasn't a fluke. Still, straight line speed is just one attribute that doesn't always translate to the NFL. He then ran what's called "the gauntlet," a drill that measures a receiver's ability to catch with his hands without breaking stride, a much better indication of NFL-level talent:
As you can see, those hands are like steel traps. He didn't break stride for a second, and his hands acted like a football wasn't just rocketed into them. He and Michael Floyd, another big guy who ran well (4.42), ran the best in this drill, but Hill might have just secured himself a selection in the first three rounds with this performance.

After running an unofficial 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the 2012 NFL Combine, it's fair to ask just how fast Robert Griffin III is in historical context. He was by far the fastest quarterback at the combine this year so far (other quarterbacks will run throughout the day). He's got the third-fastest time among all players behind Georgia Tech's Stephen Hill (4.3) and Miami's Travis Benjamin (4.37).
Among quarterbacks, he ran the fast 40-yard dash in 12 years, according to NFL Network.
Michael Vick, the logical comparison with that type of speed, didn't run at the combine, but he ran a 4.33 at his pro day and a 4.25 earlier in his collegiate career at Virginia Tech. The other players in that universe of speed were guys like Marcus Vick and Tyrod Taylor and Colin Kaepernick last year. None of them had the arm and makeup like RGIII. It's pretty safe to say that if Andrew Luck weren't in the draft this year, RGIII would be the consensus No. 1 pick.

A lot of NFL writers were bashing the comparisons between Robert Griffin III and Cam Newton because they didn't feel it was fair to compare Griffin to a "running" quarterback.
Turns out, it was unfair to Griffin because Newton's too slow. Griffin ran a 4.41 in his first attempt and a 4.38 in his second attempt at the 40-yard dash in the 2012 NFL combine, the fastest time by a quarterback in 12 years. By comparison, Newton ran a 4.60 in his fastest time last year.
Here's video of his first run, clocked at 4.41:
Here's video of his second run, clocked at 4.38:
That's some serious, serious speed. Andrew Luck is the presumptive first overall pick and Griffin was unanimously considered the second-best quarterback prospect. After this, I don't know if their positions switch, but the perceived gap just got a lot closer.

The 2012 NFL Combine is well under way in Indianapolis. Things are heating up as the weekend continues, with the first groups banging out their stations and skill drills on the field Saturday.
Some of the offensive linemen had some fine showings in the 40-yard dash. Matt Kalil, the projected No. 2 pick and top lineman in the 2012 NFL Draft, has the second-best time among linemen. Here are the top 10 OL 40-yard dash times so far:
- Donald Stephenson, OL, Oklahoma Sooners: 4.94
- Matt Kalil, OL, USC Trojans: 4.99
- Adam Gettis, OL, Iowa Hawkeyes: 5.00
- Desmond Wynn, OL, Rutgers Scarlet Knights: 5.05
- Tom Compton, OL, South Dakota: 5.11
- Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia Bulldogs: 5.15
- Brandon Mosley, OL, Auburn Tigers: 5.21
- Bobby Massie, OL, Mississippi Rebels: 5.23
- Riley Reiff, OL, Iowa Hawkeyes: 5.23

Former USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil had an impressive workout at the NFL Combine on Saturday and will certainly maintain his status as the top offensive line prospect in the 2012 NFL Draft. Kalil was one of only three offensive linemen to break the five second mark in the 40-yard dash. The tackle, who's been adding bulk in the lead up to the draft, weighed in at a hefty 306 pounds but still managed to run the 40 in 4.99 seconds.
Video of Kalil's 4.99 40-yard dash at NFL.com.
Kalil demonstrated not just speed but also strength, putting up 225 pounds on the bench press 30 times. Just a dozen of the offensive linemen tested so far have broken 30 on the bench press, with none coming close to Michigan's David Molk, who lifted it 41 times.
In addition to weighing in at 306, Kaili was measured at 6'6 1/2 and with 34 1/2 inch arms. He performed the ten-yard split in just 1.70 seconds, an important measurement for offensive and defensive linemen. Kalil is projected to go in the top five, with many having the Rams or Vikings taking him in either the No. 2 or No. 3 spot. His workout today solidifies that top five status.

Former Missouri Tigers tight end Michael Egnew was impressive in drills during the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday. The 6'5, 252-pounder recorded a 36 inch vertical jump and a 10 feet, 11 inch broad jump to lead his position. He came in third in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.53 seconds. James Hanna out of Oklahoma won the 40 with a 4.42-second run. He tied Egnew in the vertical and took third with a 10-2 broad jump.

Iowa left tackle Riley Reiff is projected to be a Top 10 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but when Reiff was measured in at the NFL Combine his arms turned out to be shorter than ideal for an NFL left tackle. Reiff came in at 6'5" and 313 pounds, but his arms measured in at 33 1/4", which is considered short for a left tackle.
Reiff isn't the first Iowa Hawkeyes left tackle to head into the draft with short arms, as his former teammate Bryan Bulaga had shorter than ideal arms when he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Other pro tackles such as Joe Thomas have overcome short arms and it shouldn't keep Reiff from being the second tackle drafted in April, but it is something that will make scouts raise their eyebrows.
There's just something in the water in Iowa City guess, with Iowa players and their short arms.

The NFL Combine is a place for NFL Draft prospects to confirm suspicions of NFL scouts in terms of actual size, strength, etc. Sometimes, though, the unfortunate injury occurs. The first injury for the 2012 NFL Combine was suffered by Iowa offensive tackle Markus Zusevics, who tore his pectoral muscle while doing the bench press.
Tough break for Iowa's Markus Zusevics. According to NFL Net tore his peck during bench press. Left Shrine week early too. Tweener player
— Josh Norris (@JoshNorris) February 25, 2012
Zusevics was not likely to be a high-round draft pick, but he was an interesting mid-round prospect that teams wanted to see work out. Now, with a pectoral injury it's unlikely Zusevics will get drafted or even play in the 2012 season.

Alabama Crimson Tide running back isn't participating in drills during the 2012 NFL Combine but that doesn't mean he can't still sit on a scale and get weighed in. Richardson's official Combine measurement was listed as 5-foot-9 1/4 and 228 pounds. Many mock drafts have Richardson going in the first round and he likely won't do much to change that this weekend.
He wasn't the only running back of note to get measured Friday.
Oregon Ducks running back LaMichael James' official measurement at the Combine was 5-foot-8 even and 194 pounds, just a shade under his listed 5-foot-9, 195 pounds. He is projected by many as a third-rounder.
Miami Hurricanes running back Lamar Miller's official measurement was 5-foot-10 3/4 and 212 pounds. Miller is trying to make some noise this weekend as he hasn't come up on draft boards too much.

The courtship of Andrew Luck by the Indianapolis Colts has received mounds upon mounds of coverage as soon as it was clear that Indianapolis would finish the 2011 season as the worst team in the NFL. It's safe to assume that in the time since, Luck has given some thought about what it would be like to compete with Peyton Manning on a daily basis. At the 2012 NFL Scout Combine on Thursday, Luck made sure to heap as much praise as he could upon on his potential mentor.
"Peyton was my football hero. That's who I modeled myself after. You never replace a guy like that," Luck said. "Who knows what happens?"
He added, "If I have the opportunity to learn from a guy like that, of course, you're going to take advantage of it."
Luck won't be throwing at this year's Combine, which makes sense considering the top spot in the draft is all but his. He measured in at 6'4, 238 pounds on Thursday.

Justin Blackmon is on several draft boards as the best receiving prospect in the 2012 NFL Draft. His resume over three seasons at Oklahoma State is quite impressive, highlighted by two Biletnikoff Awards given following his sophomore and junior seasons. Blackmon didn't do himself many favors at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, however, reporting in at an inch under his listed 6-1 height, and opting out of the 40-yard dash due to a tender hamstring.
Okla St WR Justin Blackmon says he measured at 6-foot, not 6-1 as listed. Will not run at combine due to tender hamstring.
— Rick Stroud (@NFLSTROUD) February 24, 2012
Blackmon is considered by many to be a Top 5 pick in this year's draft class. Whether he has the top-end speed to be an elite receiver at the next level has been one of his biggest questions from scouts, however. His performance in the 40 was one of the more highly anticipated storylines heading into the weekend. Instead, we will have wait until his Pro Day next week to find out just how speedy he is.

Robert Griffin III arrived in Indianapolis for his media session at the 2012 NFL Combine and confirmed previous reports that he will not throw while he's here. Griffin III said he isn't comfortable throwing to receivers he doesn't know and instead will hold a workout in March for NFL teams.
This is usually what the top quarterbacks in the draft do. At the Combine he would be throwing to receivers he's not familiar with, which could reflect negatively on his abilities. Instead, Griffin III will throw to former teammates at Baylor's pro day.
Griffin III also said he met with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night and on Friday night will interview with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns. Every team can interview up to 60 prospects for 15 minutes apiece. The Browns are believed to be one of the teams most interested in him. He has not met with the Indianapolis Colts.
Griffin III is an impressive person to listen to. His press conference was described as "beyond stellar" by one in attendance.

South Carolina Gamecocks wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was the subject of much buzz during the offseason, as rumors poured in that he was letting himself go. One report in January even relayed news that the wideout had ballooned up to an uncomfortable 249 pounds.
Jeffery is currently at the 2012 NFL Combine in Indianapolis and putting an end to those rumors while being measured and weighed in.
NFL Draft Scout Mike Loyko reports that Jeffery weighed in at 216 on Friday at the combine. You can bet that both Jeffery's camp and an assortment of scouts and evaluators are breathing a sigh of relief at the news. Jeffery is projected by most to be selected in the top 10 of the 2012 NFL Draft.

In Day 3 of the 2012 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, there have already been a pair of interesting revelations regarding quarterback height. Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III measured in 3/8 of an inch taller than previously thought, boosting his stock in the NFL Draft, which is already at a premium. The prevailing belief is that taller is better where NFL quarterbacks are concerned, although that belief does have a threshold.
Arizona St. Sun Devils quarterback Brock Osweiler has long been touted as being 6'8, a figure that had turned off a lot of NFL scouts and analysts. At the Combine on Friday, Osweiler actually measure in at 6'6 and 7/8 inches, according to Rob Rang of CBS Sports.
For Osweiler, coming in over an inch shorter than everyone had thought may be more beneficial for his stock than Griffin's height increase. Although Osweiler was known for his surprising athleticism for his size, the 6'8 tag raised a lot of concerns for scouts, who likely envisioned a gargantuan behemoth clomping around behind the line of scrimmage and stumbling over his own feet. 6'6 is easier for scouts to get their heads around, which is nothing but good news for the QB.
If Osweiler can impress in the physical components of the Combine, expect him to make a big jump in the mock drafts.

Two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up and the agreed-upon No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Andrew Luck, arrived in Indianapolis on Thursday for the 2012 NFL Combine. The Stanford Cardinal quarterback spent the day checking in and getting accumulated, but will spend Friday undergoing medical examinations, psychological testing and interviews.
Luck's measurements have already been taken and NFL.com reports that the official height and weight for Luck is 6'4, 238 pounds. No surprises in either of those numbers, as those were the vital stats listed by Stanford prior to the Combine.
Luck's closest competition in the draft, Baylor Bears quarterback and reigning Heisman winner Robert Griffin III, measured in at 6'2 and 3/8 inches, taller than previously thought. Griffin also weighed in at 223 pounds, three pounds heavier than Baylor had listed.

Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III arrived in Indianapolis on Thursday, along with the other quarterbacks who were invited to the 2012 NFL Combine. Their first day at the event consisted mostly of registration and pre-screenings, but on Friday morning they got down to brass tacks. The second batch of groups will have their measurements taken and undergo medical and psychological testing throughout the day on Friday.
Alex Marvez of FOX Sports sent out a tweet on Friday morning to relay the information that Griffin had measured in at 6'2 and 3/8 inches. Marvez further stated that the additional height will only add to Griffin's stock value. The prevailing belief is that the taller the quarterback, the better-suited he is to the NFL. Griffin had previously always been listed as 6'2.
The gap between Griffin and projected No. 1 overall pick, Andrew Luck, has just narrowed by the slimmest of margins. Luck is billed at 6'4.

Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright is a player whose draft stock could potentially propel him to be the first wide receiver taken in the 2012 NFL Draft, depending on how he grades out at the NFL Combine compared to the other top-rated wide receivers. Wright missed a chance to separate himself at the 2012 Senior Bowl, pulling out with an ankle injury. Wright is expected to run the 40-yard dash in Indianapolis however, despite dealing with the ankle injury.
Baylor WR Kendall Wright (ankle) will run during the Combine.
— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) February 22, 2012
Some now have Wright rated as their top wide receiver in the 2012 draft class, ahead of Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon. If Wright can run in the 4.3 range in the 40-yard dash like most experts expect, he could very well cement his spot as the top receiver in the draft.

Almost every coach and general manager in the NFL descends upon Indianapolis this week for the 2012 NFL Combine and almost all of those attending will conduct a press conference talking about their team and the 2012 NFL draft. You can see a schedule of the coaches and GMs speaking here, but one that stood out was John Fox.
And why would the Denver Broncos head coach stand out? Because he talked about Tim Tebow, of course. As Mocking The Draft notes, only about half of the questions were Tebow-related. Progress?
A few highlights of what Fox had to say:

Former Michigan center David Molk arrived at the 2012 NFL Combine on Wednesday with the rest of the offensive lineman. On Saturday, Molk will get to do position drills and tests, but he won't run the 40-yard dash. Molk has suffered numerous injuries in his career at Michigan, including coming off a foot injury he suffered in the Sugar Bowl, so he won't participate in most drills. One drill Molk will participate in is the bench press record, and he hopes to break the record for reps.
One of the drills Molk will do is the bench press, and he said he hopes to break the combine record of 49 reps at 225 pounds, set last year by defensive tackle Stephen Paea. Molk said he recently did 39 reps after a full workout that included 10 sets of bench, ending at 495 pounds.
Molk also cited the strength of his 22-inch neck as a big selling point for teams looking to draft a center in 2012, because he won't get whiplash.
"I don't think you can quantify the strength of your neck, I just think that my neck is one of my better things I have, I guess," Molk told the Detroit Free Press. "If you think about it, the first thing I hit with is my face. When you have a guy that's an inch and a half away from you on every single play, you're going to hit him with your head. And whiplash is one of the biggest things that will cause a concussion. My head won't whip, and I can hit people harder and I'll never get hurt."

The NFL Combine always features a couple of players from smaller programs who scouts and media want to see officially work out, to re-affirm their "sleeper" and "fast-rising" labels. One of those players in the 2012 NFL Draft is Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner. Unfortunately for Wagner, he's going to have to wait until his Pro Day to impress NFL teams. Wagner will miss the 2012 NFL Combine because he's in the hospital with a case of pneumonia, according to a report by FOX Sports.
Utah State inside linebacker Bobby Wagner was hospitalized Monday in Arizona with pneumonia, a source told FOXSports.com. Agent Kenny Zuckerman said Wagner was not cleared to travel to Indianapolis but that he will be discharged by the weekend and fully recovered within the next few weeks.
Wagner was considered a fast-riser in the draft by many in part because of his fantastic week at the Senior Bowl which Wagner capped off with a seven-tackle, one-interception performance in the game.

Groups 4 and 5 are both quarterbacks and wide receivers while Group 6 is entirely made up of the running back position.
Here are some notable players that arrive on Day 2:
Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

The 2012 NFL Combine, the biggest event of the NFL's pre-draft season, kicked off Wednesday, with kickers, punters, offensive lineman and tight ends arriving in Indianapolis.
If you're excited to watch a bunch of large gentlemen running as fast as they can, though, you'll have to wait a little while longer. Thursday is the day-before-the-day for special teams players, offensive lineman and tight ends.
Players in these groups arrived on Wednesday to register for the Combine, receive their hospital pre-exam and X-rays, undergo orientation and participate in interviews.
Notable players in this group include Ohio St. Buckeyes lineman Mike Adams, Clemson Tigers tight end Dwayne Allen and USC Trojans lineman Matt Kalil (more players listed here).

Alabama Crimson Tide RB Trent Richardson will not participate in on-field drills at this week's NFL Scouting Combine because of a minor knee injury, a league source said Wednesday to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network.
Richardson suffered a minor injury in a practice leading up to last month's BCS National Championship Game according to the source, and had a "minor scope" three weeks ago to alleviate discomfort. Richardson has since made good progress but will limit his activity at the combine.
The Heisman Trophy finalist is expected to be able to participate in on-field testing at Alabama's pro day on March 7th.
Richardson had 1,679 rushing yards in 2011, breaking Mark Ingram's school record for most rushing yards in a season. He also scored 21 rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns. He remains projected as a first-round pick.
For more on Richardson and other prospects in the 2012 NFL Draft, stay tuned to the SB Nation blog Mocking The Draft.
Justin Blackmon is widely considered to be the top wide receiver prospect in the 2012 NFL Draft, with two Biletnikoff awards during his college career, and 121 catches and 1,522 yards receiving this past season for Oklahoma State. He could easily be a Top-5 pick, however there are concerns about his top-end speed. It appears that Blackmon is holding off on answering those concerns. According to Adam Schefter, Blackmon may not run the 40-yard dash at the 2012 NFL Combine starting Wednesday, Feb. 22. (Note: ESPN Insider subscription required).
While a strong 40 time isn't the end-all, be-all of a great pro wideout (Jerry Rice being the consummate example), NFL scouts do place a lot of weight on speed. Unless Blackmon plans to run at the Oklahoma State's Pro Day on March 7, he could be viewed as dodging something he knows is a major weakness on his resume.
We won't know until draft day how big of a hit his stock takes if he doesn't run. As the SB Nation blog Mocking The Draft points out, Blackmon would be seriously considered at the No. 2 overall spot by the St. Louis Rams if he posted a time of 4.5 seconds or under. Still, he has plenty of other tools to make up for his lack of elite speed, and will likely be the first receiver taken off the board regardless.
For more on Blackmon and other prospects in the 2012 NFL Draft, stay tuned to the SB Nation blog Mocking The Draft.
Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III will be traveling to Indianapolis on Thursday to participate in the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine. Although the Baylor Bears' quarterback is not expected to throw at the combine, there will still be plenty of scrutiny on him in the coming week, as he is projected to be the No. 2 QB in this year's draft. He figures to be selected in the top five, overall.
Jarrett Bell of USA Today relayed some comments made by Griffin over the weekend.
"This is a business trip," Griffin, 22, says after a workout in Arizona last weekend. "I'm the CEO of Griffin Enterprises. It's my job to go sell my product."
He had this to say regarding throwing in the Combine:
"It would be foolish to say it's even a fair and equitable environment for throwing," he says. "When you show up in a game, you're never going in without a game plan. It's a disadvantage to throw when you have no idea of the rhythm that you will have with your receivers.
"I'll decide when I get there. I'll do the other tests and see how it goes."
He was also asked about his thoughts on the other top quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft, Stanford Cardinal QB Andrew Luck.
"Mr. Irsay hasn't said who he's picking," Griffin says of Colts owner Jim Irsay. "Andrew's a great player. If he's the top pick, I'll be happy for him. And I'm sure that, if I'm No. 1, he would be happy for me. I think it's a possibility."
"When we step into the NFL, we're not going to be the No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks in the league," Griffin says. "We'll be more like No. 31 and No. 32. So while there may be a competition there, we're both going to come in with a lot to learn."
"I'm getting ready to go to the only combine of my life," he says. "Next year there won't be a Wonderlic test, 40-yard dash or interviews with all the teams. So I want to take in the whole experience."
Griffin sounds as if he is definitely planning on putting on as impressive a display as he can at the Combine in Indianapolis this week. He's hoping to turn some heads and improve his stock even more.

The NFL Combine is starting this week in Indianapolis, and as expected the top story line involves a couple of quarterbacks.
Continue
The 2012 NFL Scouting Combine is under way in Indianapolis, with the first group of players arriving and beginning the process on Wednesday. The quarterback groups are not arriving until Thursday and not having their on-field workouts and drills until Sunday, but the early news was that the top two quarterbacks in this year's NFL Draft, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, were not planning on throwing at the Combine, electing to save that aspect of their game for their individual pro day workouts in March.
Joe Schad of ESPN reports that Luck has been training with George Whitfield, who trained last year's No. 1 overall pick, Cam Newton. He plans on working with the Stanford quarterback at least through Luck's pro day in Palo Alto on March 22.
"There are things he wants to work on, but this is refinement not an installation or a surgery," Whitfield said. "It's about getting reps and he's really a marvel to watch. Very sound. Very consistent. Physically impressive. A power guy. A strong guy which people underestimate. One thing we've been doing is working the throws out on the perimeter -- those throws outside the hash marks."
Whether Luck will throw at the combine is uncertain, but Whitfield said Luck is prepared to throw in Indianapolis and would perform well if he did throw.
It appears that, unlike Heisman winner Griffin, Luck is not ruling out throwing at the Combine. We will have to wait and see.

The 2012 NFL Combine will host many talented players that will make up the 2012 NFL Draft class, but none come close to Stanford's Andrew Luck and Baylor's Robert Griffin III, who will likely be among the first players selected in April. And the two quarterbacks may be working out in close proximity to each other this week.
That's because Luck, the presumptive No. 1 pick who turned down a chance to be the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by electing to stay at Stanford in 2011, and Griffin III, who was the trigger man of an explosive Baylor offense and won the Heisman Trophy for his efforts, will be going through the same schedule of events on the same days whether they are both in either Group 4 or Group 5.
Both groups follow the same sequence of events at the Combine, and both players will have to wait until Sunday for their official workouts and skills drills.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is one of the top rated prospects in the NFL Draft, and the Heisman-winning quarterback is projected to go as high as the second overall pick. Recently, Griffin spoke with Sports Illustrated and talked about the NFL combine, where the quarterback plans to "wow" teams in the interview room.
"I'm excited to wow them in the interviews with the type of offense that we run, just so they can understand it's not as simple as some people make our spread out to be. It's a different kind of spread,'' Griffin told Sports Illustrated. "Although I don't agree with it, but people say I just burst on the scene this year, so no one knows much about me, whether NFL GMs or analysts, so I get a chance to put my best foot forward.''
Griffin also noted in the interview that he likely will not throw at the NFL combine, instead opting to throw at the Baylor Pro Day on March 21. Originally the Baylor Pro Day was scheduled on the same day as Stanford's, which meant top rated prospect Andrew Luck and Griffin would have dueling Pro Days. Baylor has moved theirs up a day now, so Griffin will get a chance to impress scouts before Luck.
"It's like a performance when it comes to your pro day and when you're throwing. It's exactly like a performance, you've just got to memorize the script and go out and execute to the best of your ability,'' Griffin told Sports Illustrated about throwing at his Pro Day.

Anticipation for the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine seems to increase yearly as the NFL Draft garners more and more coverage. This year's combine will feature over 300 athletes from the college ranks trying to prove their mettle in tests such as the 40-yard dash, bench press and vertical jump. Over the years, there have been many notable, and some not-so-notable, performances.
Once upon a time, the event didn't earn nearly the amount of attention it does today. The combine was started simply as a means to collect medical information on prospective pros. The first combine was attended by 163 players in Tampa in 1982. The location moved to New Orleans (1984, 1986) and Arizona (1985) before settling in Indianapolis in 1987 where it is still held to this day.
The 40-yard dash earns a lot attention in particular. Fastest man is obviously a highly coveted title, but offensive linemen draw almost as many eyes as the running backs and wide receivers for sheer spectacle alone. Andre Smith demonstrated a few years back the cruelty of putting enormous men on the testing track.
Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans ran the test in 4.24 seconds in 2008, the fastest recorded time in the 2000s. Bo Jackson reportedly clocked a time of 4.12 seconds on the turf of the New Orleans Superdome in 1986, though the effect of different surfaces as well as the element of human error has been debated endlessly over the years.
Other notable performances include Oregon State defensive tackle Stephen Paea putting up 49 reps of 225 pounds in the 2011 bench press test, and the much discussed score of 16 by Vince Young on the 2006 Wonderlic intelligence test.

Coby Fleener may be the top-rated tight end heading into the 2012 NFL Draft, but it doesn't look like scouts will get a chance to bolster that opinion during this week's Scouting Combine. The 6-foot-6, 244-pounder won't work out at the combine because of a high ankle sprain (via CBS Sports). Scouts won't get a chance to see Fleener until Stanford's Pro Day on March 22.
The good news for Fleener is that there should be plenty of scouts there. Also expected to work out that day are Andrew Luck, who's expected to be the No. 1 pick in the draft, and a pair of likely first-round offensive lineman (David DeCastro and Jonathan Martin).
Fleener suffered the injury during Stanford's loss to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. The report suggests Fleener has recovered from that injury but does not feel as though he's had enough time to properly showcase himself at the combine. He will be there to go through medical tests and interviews.

The 2012 NFL Combine begins on Thursday, February 23 in Indianapolis, but the first wave of players will report officially to Lucas Oil Stadium on Wednesday Feb. 22 for their pre-exam, x-rays, and orientation. The players will undergo a medical evaluation before the official weigh-in and measurements on Thursday Feb. 23, which will usually turn up any unforeseen medical conditions.
On Friday Feb. 24, the players will have an NFLPA meeting and then will undergo psychological evaluations with the place kickers and special teams players doing their workouts later in the day. On Saturday Feb. 25, the players in this first group will do their timing drills, station drills and skill drills.
Players at the combine are separated into groups, with the first group consisting of kickers, special teams players (i.e. long snappers), offensive lineman and tight ends.
All groups will follow the same four day schedule, with the final group consisting of defensive backs reporting on Saturday Feb. 25 and finishing up with their workout on Tuesday Feb. 28 to round out the NFL combine.

Nick Toon has been one of the best wide receivers in the Big Ten over the past few seasons, but the former Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver might not be able to show NFL decision makers that he has what it takes to replicate such success as a professional. It isn't because he doesn't want to, of course, but a foot injury is apparently causing too much pain to allow him to participate in the 2012 NFL Combine.
Toon has been touted as a possible second round selection, but Draft Insider indicates that he likely won't be able to move up draft boards with a strong showing at the combine due to a foot injury.
- Sources tell me the recent injury, or re-injury. to the foot of Nick Toon/WR/Wisconsin, continues to be an issue. Evidently in recent training for the combine, specifically when working on starts for the forty, Toon was experiencing significant foot pain. Everyone we've spoke with say its unlikely the Wisconsin receiver runs at the combine.
It's unfortunate for Toon if he is unable to compete considering he re-injured the foot practicing for the event, but there's always a chance he's able to recover in time for the Combine.
