One would assume the Washington Redskins just swapped first round picks in the 2012 NFL Draft with the St. Louis Rams, in addition to sending two future first-round picks and a second, in an effort to draft Robert Griffin III. The Heisman winner from Baylor is a can't miss prospect, even if the bounty to trade into position to draft him was hefty. But that doesn't mean the Redskins are done yet.
No, Washington still has its eyes on the prize, according to Adam Schefter.
Trade will not change Redskins plans in pursuing Peyton Manning. Intend to talk with and try to sign him, even if considered a longshot.

Perhaps the Redskins just traded up to draft Matt Khalil. In all seriousness, if Washington actually has the means to sign Manning to a big contract and draft Griffin III, more power to them. Washington could, in theory, have Manning in the immediate and Griffin in the future, or perhaps one fun quarterback competition.
The odds of this happening, however, seem incredibly unlikely. But dream for a moment, Redskins fans.

The St. Louis Rams hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 Draft, but many analysts suspected there would be many teams itching to trade with them for the spot in order to ensure themselves the ability to pick former Baylor Bears quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III. The Cleveland Browns were long considered the front-runners to make such a trade, but it appears another team was possibly willing to give up more.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Rams have agreed to trade their first-round draft selection slot to the Washington Redskins. The two teams will exchange draft picks in the first round this year and the Rams will get two future No. 1 picks, as well as additional picks.
Adam Schefter of ESPN followed up on Facebook, reporting that the Rams will receive three first-round draft picks and a second-round pick from Washington.

The St. Louis Rams are widely expected to trade the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. The Colts will likely take Andrew Luck No. 1, which means next-best quarterback prospect Robert Griffin III will be available with the second pick. The Redskins are said to be interested in the pick and other teams in the top 10 like the Browns and Dolphins have been connected, as well.
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports via multiple sources that the Rams could trade the pick much sooner than April's draft, perhaps as soon as March when free agency opens.
That makes a lot of sense, especially if the Rams are trying to maximize their leverage. Once free agency starts, Matt Flynn and Peyton Manning will be signed, which would leave two fewer teams looking for quarterbacks. Simple supply and demand tells us the price tag on the second pick should drop after those two guys are signed, because fewer teams will be looking for a quarterback. Then again, you could find the desperate team that missed out on Flynn and Manning and hike up the price. It's hard to predict how teams will react during draft season.
I think the best time to do it would be shortly after free agency starts, as teams weigh their options with Flynn or Manning versus the prospects of trading up with St. Louis to get RG3.
Rams COO Kevin Demoff told SI's Peter King recently that there are several periods in which the pick could be traded -- right as free agency starts, before Manning and Flynn sign; around Baylor's pro day in March, when the RG3 hype will pick up again; right before the NFL draft in April.
The trade rumors surrounding that No. 2 pick are out of control this year. I don't remember a situation in which we saw so much trade talk floating around in February and early March. The Rams really should push to get the pick traded in the next few weeks and be done with it.

The Washington Redskins have apparently identified Robert Griffin III as the player they want in the 2012 NFL Draft and, according to the Washington Post, are willing to part with two first-round picks, as well as other picks, in order to get him. With Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck projected to go No. 1, the St. Louis Rams likely control the fate of Griffin and they've expressed a willingness to trade out of the position for a haul similar to the one the San Diego Chargers netted in 2004.
The Redskins are reportedly prepared to send their No. 6 overall pick in this year's draft, next year's first-round pick and assorted other picks to St. Louis for the chance to pick Griffin.
Acquiring the pick may not be that simple, though. The Cleveland Browns have two first-round picks in this year's Draft, including the No. 4 overall pick, and are reportedly interested in trading up as well.
Whoever gets Griffin will be getting a player that would probably go No. 1 many years. He recently clocked a 4.41 40 time and finished off his college career by throwing for 4,293 yards, 37 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Mocking the Draft considers him the No. 5 overall prospect, but almost every mock draft has him going at No. 2.

The St. Louis Rams currently hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, which seems to be a very valuable commodity because of quarterback Robert Griffin III, who most experts believe will wind up being the second-overall pick. The Rams used the NFL Combine as a chance to get the word out that they're willing to trade out of the second overall pick to the highest bidder.
Throughout the combine, the Rams have made no secret of the fact that they are shopping the pick. But if they don't receive an offer they like, they're not going to trade the pick. Simple as that. As one team source said, "It's not like we're going to trade the pick for a seventh-rounder."
The Rams have quite a few needs on their football team on both sides of the football, so looking to pick up as many draft picks as possible is a smart play. The Rams could also simply just use the pick on a player they really like if no one's willing to pony up something acceptable. As it stands right now, the Rams are preliminarily talking to teams about a trade, but no official offers have been made.

The St. Louis Rams are making it well known that they're prepared to trade the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Common sense tells us they would be, considering Robert Griffin III lit it up at the NFL Combine over the weekend, making that second pick even more valuable.
Head coach Jeff Fisher indicated his team would be willing to trade the second pick and COO Kevin Demoff, who spoke to Peter King over the weekend, indicated the same.
"The whole paradigm has changed in several ways,'' said Rams COO Kevin Demoff Saturday night. "Griffin could be cheaper than Flynn. The fact that you can get a potential franchise quarterback for what the top picks are paid now makes it easier to justify trading a lot for it.''
Demoff told King there were a few dates to watch when it comes to potentially trading the pick. The first is shortly before free agency hits on March 13, the second is around Baylor's pro day when Griffin III likely impresses again, and the third is shortly before the NFL draft in April.
The Rams don't have to do much to make the No. 2 pick even more attractive. RG3 did that for them over the weekend.

The St. Louis Rams are currently the proud owners of the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The expected pick for the Rams in the first round is USC Trojans offensive tackle Matt Kalil, but this year's class is stacked with all sorts of prospects at every position. Kalil represents the pick that the Rams would take, but not necessarily the selection every team would make if given that placement in the draft.
It appears as though the Rams may be amenable to trading their slot in the first round for the right compensation. Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times sent out a series of tweets on Friday with comments from Rams head coach Jeff Fisher.
I'm very excited. It's gone well. Everything has been very exciting. [The No. 2 pick] will define the immediate and long-term future of the franchise.
We have options: take the best player or see what people are willing to offer. There's a lot of options. We'll be prepared.
If a team should decide that they need Kalil, or wants to ensure that they'll be able to select Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, it sounds like the Rams are ready to entertain offers. They could wind up with more than just the top offensive tackle in the draft.
