2012 NFL Mock Draft: Courtney Upshaw Is A Seahawk

With the 12th pick in SB Nation's 2012 NFL mock draft, the Seattle Seahawks select Alabama LB Courtney Upshaw.

The Seattle Seahawks picked up Matt Flynn in free agency so quarterback is no longer an immediate need. Thus, the Seahawks turn their attention to defense where SB Nation's Seahawks blog, Field Gulls, makes the pick of Upshaw.

Seattle's priority in round one has to be improving the team's outside pass rush, as it currently relies too much on Chris Clemons. Pete Carroll will be looking for someone who can fit as a DE/OLB hybrid, get to the quarterback and provide solid run support. Courtney Upshaw played the exact same role for Alabama and in many ways is ideal for the Seahawks. Don't be surprised if they make him the 12th overall pick.

Upshaw is one of those guys who may not have great Combine numbers but he has what matters and that's production on the field. Alabama defenders are well-coached and generally come to the league well prepared. Upshaw will be no different and should hit the field quickly.
