With the 50th pick in SB Nation's 2012 NFL mock draft, the Chicago Bears select Clemson DT Brandon Thompson.
The Bears continue tweaking their defense. Thompson is a solid value in the second round and should quickly provide some depth while the Bears hope he becomes a future starter.
SB Nation's Mocking The Draft explains the pick:
In this mock draft scenario, Thompson is far and away the best player available. He actually fills a need for the Bears as well. When most look at the Bears, they point to wide receiver, pass rusher and offensive line. But their interior defensive linemen are largely average. Henry Melton is a solid player and Stephen Paea has potential, but missed time last season with injury. A player like Thompson could be lined up at either tackle spot and likely start as a rookie for the Bears. Marshall's Vinny Curry could have been a good choice as well, but Thompson is a big-time talent.
