Indications are that the Dallas Cowboys are thinking about targeting LSU Tigers defensive lineman Michael Brockers for their first-round pick in Thursday's 2012 NFL Draft. The Cowboys own the No. 14 overall pick and there have been many rumblings that Brockers is high on their list, should he still be available when their number comes up.
According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas/Ft. Worth, Cowboys fans and pundits are knocking Brockers for being merely a bigger version of Marcus Spears, with the added information that Spears had even better numbers for LSU at the same age.
The Valley Ranch spin would probably be that Brockers is a raw prospect who would be a valuable run-stopper right away and have potential to develop as a pass rusher. Just remember that a lot of the same people projected Spears to be a star, not just a solid rotation player.
It remains to be seen whether Brockers will head to Dallas, but the comparisons are interesting, at the very least.
