Leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots were projected as a team that would likely make a trade, as Bill Belichick usually does. The Patriots did just that on Thursday night as they sent the 27th overall pick and another third rounder to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the 21st overall pick. The Patriots plan to select Syracuse DE Chandler Jones.
The Patriots priorities entering the offseason were to upgrade the secondary and find more pass rushers. They've accomplished the latter with Jones, who was a fast-rising prospect because of his athleticism.
The Bengals held two first round picks entering the draft -- numbers 17 and 21. With the 17th pick, they took Dre Kirkpatrick.
Jones's brother, Jon, is a well-known MMA fighter.
