With the No. 44 pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Illinois offensive tackle Jeff Allen. Allen is the 12th-rated prospect at his position, according to Mocking The Draft's rankings.
Allen stands out from an intangibles perspective. He served as a team captain for the Fighting Illini last season, and has the versatility to pay on either the left or right side of the line. Whether he can remain motivated at all times remains to be seen, according to Dan Kadar.
Strengths: A team captain with a lot of experience playing right and left tackle and can play either side. Good athleticism and quickness for the position. When his technique is sound, Allen uses his hands nicely.
Weaknesses: Doesn't always play physical and will need to be motivated on the field by coaches. Seems to absorb contact instead of being the person initiating it.
