NFL Draft Grades: NFC West Teams Have Strong 1st Round (VIDEO)

The 2012 NFL Draft was full of moves and surprises in Thursday's first round. The four teams in the NFC West did not enter the fray until almost midway through the round, but each of the teams made strong additions.

The Arizona Cardinals may have had the best pick at No. 13 with Notre Dame Fighting Irish wide receiver Michael Floyd. The St. Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks were both able to trade down in the order and still get the targets they were after, picking up Michael Brockers and Bruce Irvin, respectively. While the San Franicsco 49ers made an unorthodox pick with A.J. Jenkins, the move gives them the wide receiver for the future that they were looking for.

NFL Draft Grades: Buccaneers, Panthers Comprise NFC South 1st Round (VIDEO)

The teams of the NFC South are all hoping for good things to come out of the 2012 NFL Draft. After the first round of picks on Thursday, at least two of the four teams in the division have a slightly better idea of how things are going to look in the fall.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have been the big winners of the evening in the division. They traded down to No. 7 in the draft order, but were still able to secure Mark Barron, viewed by many as the top safety in this year's crop of draftees. They were able to trade back into the 1st round to get a second pick, taking running back Doug Martin from Boise State.

The Carolina Panthers did not take a defensive tackle, as expected, going instead with middle linebacker Luke Kuechly. The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, of course, were without a 1st round pick on Thursday night.

NFL Draft Grades: Quiet 1st Round For The AFC West (VIDEO)

In the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft on Thursday, only two of the teams in the AFC West actually made selections. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Dontari Poe in hopes that he can become their new starting nose tackle, but the former Memphis Tigers player needs a lot of work before he will be NFL-ready.

The San Diego Chargers picked up outside linebacker Melvin Ingram, who they are hoping will become a big component of their defense in 2012 and the years beyond. The Oakland Raiders, of course, gave up their first round pick to the Cincinnati Bengals in order to secure Carson Palmer, while the Denver Broncos were content to let their first-round picks go to teams that felt they needed them more.

NFL Draft Grades: Robert Griffin III Headlines NFC East Selections (VIDEO)

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner, as expected, was drafted by the Washington Redskins on Thursday night. As the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Robert Griffin III was the biggest name drafted by an NFC East team in the first round, as well as the biggest no-brainer pick.

The Dallas Cowboys surprised many by trading up in the draft order in order to land Morris Claiborne. Similarly, the Philadelphia Eagles swapped places with the Seattle Seahawks so they could bring home defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. The New York Giants, by comparison, had a quiet evening, as they maintained their spot as the last team of the first round and selected running back David Wilson, perhaps as a replacement for the departed Brandon Jacobs.

NFL Draft Grades: AFC North Picks Include Interesting Moves By Browns (VIDEO)

The Cleveland Browns made some of the most interesting moves in the entire first round of the 2012 NFL Draft on Thursday -- and certainly the most interesting in the AFC North. They traded up in order to be able to select running back Trent Richardson and picked up a new -- and potential replacement -- quarterback in Brandon Weeden.

The Cincinnati Bengals also made two moves, albeit less risky ones, by shoring up at the cornerback and offensive guard positions. The Pittsburgh Steelers, meanwhile, grabbed one of the best guards in the entire draft with their selection of David DeCastro of the Stanford Cardinal. Only the Baltimore Ravens missed out on the fun, as they traded their first-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL Draft Grades: Andrew Luck Headlines 1st Round AFC South Selections (VIDEO)

After the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft on Thursday, the four teams in the AFC South have a slightly better idea of what their rosters will look like heading into the upcoming season. The Indianapolis Colts, of course, can now officially begin preparing for the new-look offense that will be headed up by quarterback Andrew Luck.

The Jacksonville Jaguars may have given up quite a bit in order to trade up for wide receiver Justin Blackmon, which could be a bit of a misstep in the long run. The Tennessee Titans also went the wide receiver route by selecting Kendall Wright, but didn't need to part with anything to wind up there. The Houston Texans tried to fill the gap left by Mario Williams with the selection of linebacker/defensive end Whitney Mercilus.

NFL Draft Grades: NFC North Teams All Do Well In 1st Round (VIDEO)

In the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft on Thursday, the four teams in the NFC North all emerged from their initial selections looking pretty good. The Minnesota Vikings came away with two first-round picks, beefing up both their offensive line (as expected) and their defense (which was a nice surprise for Vikings fans).

The Lions also added to their O-line, as they picked up Riley Reiff, who will be tasked with keeping quarterback Matthew Stafford healthy over the next several years. The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers both added outside linebackers who are expected to perform well at the NFL level. In all, the NFC North may have done the best in the league for a single division in Round 1.

NFL Draft Grades: Patriots Big Winners In AFC East (VIDEO)

Thursday was the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. There were some big and definitely interesting moves by all four teams in the AFC East in the first round. Our team of analysts broke down each of the selections in the division and graded the picks, team by team.

The selection of quarterback Ryan Tannehill by the Miami Dolphins is a move that will likely be second-guessed all the way through the 2012 season, if not longer. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots quietly had an extremely promising night, trading up to finish with two first-round picks, both of which are very solid. While the New York Jets did not have the typical obvious first-round blunder for which they are famous, their selection still comes with question marks.
