The Atlanta Falcons selected Peter Konz, a center out of Wisconsin, with the 55th pick in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Konz bolsters a Falcons offensive line in need of better and younger depth. Once regarded as a potential first-round pick and the best center in the draft, Konz in the 55th spot is a mild upset, but one the Falcons will certainly appreciate.
From the scouting report at Mocking the Draft:
Final word: Many consider the running backs at Wisconsin a product of the system. But the key to that system, is a great offensive line. With that in mind, the tackles at Wisconsin often get much of the credit. But it's Konz who was the key to the Wisconsin run game. Whether he was working straight ahead or on a pull, the run play often came directly behind Konz. Has had a few nagging injuries through his career from blood clots in 2009 to a dislocated ankle in 2010.
