2012 NFL Draft Results: Colts, Broncos Lead Off 5th Round With Defensive Tackle Picks

With the first pick in the 5th round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts added some help for their defensive line in the form of Alabama defensive tackle Josh Chapman. The 316-pound lineman was a run stuffer during his days with the Tide.

Denver followed suit with an SEC defensive tackle pick of their own, selecting Malik Jackson of Tennessee.

136. Indianapolis Colts: Alabama DT Josh Chapman, 6'1", 316 pounds

Mocking The Draft on Chapman:

Strengths: Is short and gets low and uses natural leverage, which helps him routinely beat offensive lineman. Gets most of his penetration on passing plays by pushing the offensive lineman backward into the pocket. Showed his toughness playing most of his senior season on a knee that required surgery.

Weaknesses: Is mainly a space filler of a nose tackle. Chapman is hard to move off the blocks, but he's not a very agile lineman. Shouldn't be relied on as a pass rusher, which makes you think he may only be a two-down lineman at the next level.

137. Denver Broncos: Tennessee DT Malik Jackson, 6'4", 284 pounds

Mocking The Draft on Jackson:

Strengths: Jackson is a big, physical end who was lined up a defensive tackle at times. He comes with a lot of power off the line of scrimmage and is a good tackler. Good in pursuit. Since the offseason process began, Jackson has added weight (listed at 270 by Tennessee). Because of that, it's likely he's positioning himself to be a tackle or 3-4 end in the NFL.

Weaknesses: In pass rush situations, Jackson comes off the line too high. Doesn't have the power to set the edge. Doesn't have good counter moves as a blitzer and never became the sack artist some expected. Will sometimes have awareness issues.

138: Detroit Lions: Temple OLB Tahir Whitehead, 6'1", 233 pounds

139: Minnesota Vikings: Notre Dame CB Robert Blanton, 6'1", 208 pounds

140: Tampa Bay Buccaneers: West Virginia ILB Najee Goode, 6'0", 244 pounds
