The 5th round of the 2012 NFL Draft rolls right along on Saturday. Five more teams have made their picks, including the New Orleans Saints, who went with a lesser-known name from a smaller school. The pick was only the third of the draft for the Saints.
162. New Orleans Saints: Stamford strong safety, 5'11, 206 pounds
Here's what Mocking the Draft had to say about Manning:
Strengths: Manning plays fast and is a good athlete. He reads the ball carrier nicely and has the quickness to change direction and make a play. Displays good instincts when dropping into zone coverage. Has a tall frame to add more strength. Has the skills to become a good all-around linebacker. Led N.C. State with 12.5 tackles for loss in 2011.
Weaknesses: Doesn’t have the strength to consistently stack and shed at the line of scrimmage. Doesn't always take proper angles to running backs and will be slow to react. Plays too narrow. Manning was a surprise draft entrant who could have used another year to get stronger and become a better pass rusher. Had minor knee surgery following the 2011 season.
Here's what Mocking the Draft had to say about Massaquoi:
Strengths: Massaquoi is a strong but agile pass rusher who often played with his hand down at Troy. Plays with natural leverage to drive blocker back from underneath their pads. Good at sniffing out the ball in the run game. Shows good effort. Good production. Had 31 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks in his career.
Weaknesses: Struggled with double teams during his junior year. Likely doesn’t have the size to stay at end and will need to move to linebacker. Anticipation skills seem below-average. Will be slow off the snap at times. Doesn't pick up on draws or screens particularly fast. Only played two years of top-level football after transferring from junior college.
