The Bears selected Alshon Jeffery in the 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft and just a few days later they now have him under contract on a four-year deal.

The Chicago Bears are usually one of the first teams to sign their rookies to contracts, and the trend continues this year. According to the Bears official site, the team has agreed to terms on a four-year contract with WR Alshon Jeffery out of South Carolina. This is believed to be the first rookie contract signed.

The new rookie wage scale makes rookie contracts significantly easier where there's little room for negotiation. As we saw last year, this led to rookies quickly signing their contracts.

Jeffery was the 45th pick in the draft this year. Last year's 45th overall pick, Rahim Moore of the Denver Broncos, signed a four-year, $4.448 million contract with a $1.73 million signing bonus. Jeffery's contract will likely be similar.

Jeffery joins a team that added WR Brandon Marshall in free agency, which could open opportunities for Jeffery.
