The New England Patriots have some important free agents potentially hitting the open market, such as wide receivers Wes Welker and Deion Branch. The Patriots could have another wide receiver hit the open market, due to being released. To no one's surprise, wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is a candidate to be cut, according to a report by the Boston Herald.
What the situation is now: Wes Welker's contract situation has his status in doubt, but it's likely he'll be back somehow. Deion Branch is aging, while Chad Ochocinco is a likely candidate to get cut. Julian Edelman and Tiquan Underwood have yet to make a consistent impact.
Ochocinco is coming off his worst season of his career and is due a little over $3 million in the 2012 season. It's possible that Ochocinco will restructure his contract, but it's even more likely that he's just outright released before his $100,000 workout bonus kicks in. Ochocinco caught just 15 passes for 276 yards and one touchdown in 15 games with the Patriots.
