Redskins Plan To Add 'High-Profile' WR In Free Agency, According To Report

When Jabar Gaffney is your leading receiver, it's probably time for a change. The Washington Redskins recognize the need to add a "high-profile wide receiver" and plan to do so on the free agency market, according to a report from Mark Maske of the Washington post.

This is a decent year for the receiver market in free agency but, as usual, that market will be diluted by the use of the franchise tag. The Chiefs' Dwayne Bowe, Patriots' Wes Welker and Eagles' DeSean Jackson are free agents but all are expected to be hit with the franchise tag.

Perhaps the top receiver on the market is Vincent Jackson, who appears set to at least test free agency. The Chargers do want him back and could franchise tag him but reports indicate they're unlikely to do so. The Redskins have the cap space to make a competitive offer.

And, of course, you have Peyton Manning. A report came out this week suggesting that Reggie Wayne, who is scheduled to be a free agent, wouldn't mind again joining forces with Manning, wherever the Colts QB lands. If it's in Washington, Wayne could be a free agent candidate, as well as his Indianapolis teammate, Pierre Garcon.

The Washington Post report says the Redskins plan to add a receiver in free agency, and not specifically the draft. However, if they can't land someone in free agency, they would be manned with the sixth overall pick, potentially a spot for Justin Blackmon. All of this depends on how the Redskins quarterback situation pans out, as that's their priority.
