O.J. Atogwe Released By Washington Redskins, According To Report

The Washington Redskins have released safety O.J. Atogwe, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post. Atogwe was owed a base salary of $3.4 million next year and the Redskins are likely looking to shed some serious salary after reports surfaced that they and the Dallas Cowboys will be docked a significant chunk of salary cap space.

Cutting a player like Atogwe is probably just the tip of the iceberg. After signing before the 2011 season, Atogwe only played in 13 games and made just eight starts. He did make 60 tackles and three interceptions in somewhat limited time, though.

The 30-year-old was at his best from 2006-08 when he was with the St. Louis Rams. During that three-year stretch, he averaged nearly 80 tackles per season and made 16 interceptions. But he has never really replicated that level of success.
