Eric Winston Hits Free Agency After Texans Cut Him

Stay connected with SB Nation

Good offensive tackles rarely hit the market, which is why it's so surprising to see the Houston Texans have decided to release right tackle Eric Winston. He announced the move on his Twitter page on Monday afternoon.

"Unfortunately I have bad news. The Texans have decided to release me today. Although it is a surprise, I have nothing but positive memories and great relationships that I have built over the years. While my future seems uncertain, I am confident I will land on my feet."

Very surprising move. Winston now joins OT Jared Gaither at the top of the free agent offensive tackle group. OT Levi Brown is also expected to be released.

Winston hasn't missed a game since his rookie season in 2006. He's a key part of the Texans highly successful offense, which is why it's so surprising to see him cut. The team has other free agents, like Mario Williams, to try and retain.

Winston can expect to have multiple suitors in free agency.
