John Elway and the Denver Broncos got their wish. According to reports from ESPN, Peyton Manning has picked the Broncos and the two sides will negotiate a contract. Barring something unexpected, Manning will be the next quarterback of the Broncos.
The Broncos were already coming off of a division title but this move makes them the favorites to repeat. The AFC West isn't great by any means but the Chiefs, Chargers and Raiders could all push for the division title if the Broncos aren't as good as expected with Manning. It's a tight division as it is now. Manning's addition pushes Denver over the top for the moment.
The Broncos are adding one of the league's best quarterbacks to what was already the best running game in the NFL last season. The Broncos offensive line is very good, especially left tackle Ryan Clady. Manning will also have a young receiver in Demaryius Thomas who appears poised to break out after a 551-yard season in 2011.
Denver's defense was a big part of their resurgence last season so Manning will be coming to a well-balanced team.
This is a big move for Denver and one that changes the landscape of the NFL. Assuming Manning is healthy, the Broncos should be one of a handful of teams who have legitimate Super Bowl dreams.
