Chiefs Join Peyton Manning Sweepstakes, According To Report

Stay connected with SB Nation

We can now add the Kansas City Chiefs to the list of teams who have contacted free agent Peyton Manning. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have reached out to Manning's reps.

This shouldn't be a huge surprise considering what a few of the top executives within the Chiefs organization have said this offseason. Head coach Romeo Crennel said at the NFL Combine he would be crazy not to consider Manning if/when he became available. GM Scott Pioli said there will be quarterback competition this offseason. Team owner Clark Hunt said the Chiefs have a lot of cap space because they plan to spend it.

So the Chiefs make sense as a potential Manning destination. They nearly won the AFC West last season and that was without Matt Cassel for half the season and early season injuries to Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry.

The AFC West is a weak division so adding Manning to any AFC West team, including the Broncos, instantly makes them the division favorite.
