Plaxico Burress Wants To Play In Carolina

Stay connected with SB Nation

Free-agent wide receiver and noted handgun enthusiast Plaxico Burress told WFNZ radio in Charlotte that NFL teams have indeed shown interest in his services, and that he is simply looking for the best fit. Burress also said that he would like to play in Carolina, where he could be close to his family and have the chance to play with Cam Newton.

Asked whether or not the Panthers would be a preferred landing spot, Burress replied:

"No doubt about it. My brother lives right there in Charlotte, my cousin lives there in Charlotte and all my family is there in Columbia, South Carolina. It would just be a great situation all the way around and being close to everybody. Not just that but playing with Cam (Newton) who I think is one of the top five quarterbacks in all of football and as long as I can remember Steve Smith has been one of my favorites. I just think it's a great situation."

Burress caught 45 passes for 612 yards and eight touchdowns with the Jets last season, but the team opted to let him walk in free agency. That was his first season back in uniform since 2008, after a stint in a New York prison for illegally discharging a firearm inside an nightclub that year, shooting himself in the leg.
