Giants' Tom Coughlin Not Surprised About Super Bowl Berth

The matchup for Super Bowl XLVI is now set. The New York Giants and New England Patriots will meet in Indianapolis in two weeks in a rematch of the 2008 contest.

The Giants punched their ticket to the Super Bowl by defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in the NFC Championship Game by a final score of 20-17.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was interviewed following the Championship Game and his comments were posted on the team's official website. Coughlin was asked whether he is surprised that his team was heading to the Super Bowl. Here is what he had to say:

I'm not surprised. I'm delighted. I'm excited. At times it's very difficult to contain yourself. Even this past week when the excitement of this thing was building up, the days seemed to be flying by and I was nervous that we were doing all we could possibly do to put ourselves in a position to win, but these guys have gone out and done it against the best we've played. We've played an awful lot of superior football teams this year and down the stretch we've played a lot of them and that certainly has helped.

Since the last week of the season in their do-or-die game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants have certainly not been lacking in confidence. That belief in themselves has paid off in the form of a Super Bowl berth.

Here's a look at the complete NFL playoffs bracket. For more on the Patriots and their Super Bowl run, check out SB Nation's Patriots blog, Pats Pulpit as well as SB Nation Boston. For more on the Giants and their Super Bowl appearance, visit Giants blog Big Blue View and SB Nation New York.
