Eli Manning, Tom Brady Will Make NFL History In Super Bowl

Stay connected with SB Nation

The New York Giants and New England Patriots are gearing up for their rematch in Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Although the game is still two weeks away, it is already an historical event.

According to NFL historian Jon Zimmer, this year's Super Bowl marks the first time in Super Bowl history that two former Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks will face off against one another in the biggest game of them all. Tom Brady twice won Super Bowl MVP honors in 2002 and 2004, while Manning took home the trophy in 2008, when the two teams last met for the NFL's top prize.

Although Manning and Brady were the starting quarterbacks in 2008's Super Bowl, the rematch means they both own a Super Bowl ring and a Super Bowl MVP title. Hard to believe it's never happened before, but it adds another layer to Super Bowl XLVI.

Here's a look at the complete NFL playoffs bracket. For more on the Patriots and their Super Bowl run, check out SB Nation's Patriots blog, Pats Pulpit as well as SB Nation Boston.
