Super Bowl 2012: Bill Belichick Looks Back On His New York Giants Days

On Tuesday, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addressed the media via conference call to discuss his team's appearance in Super Bowl XLVI in two weeks. The official Patriots website provided a transcript of the chat, during which he discussed his team's preparedness and their opponents, the New York Giants.

In the final question on the conference call, Belichick was asked whether he remembers his time with Tom Coughlin and the New York Giants fondly.

Yeah, absolutely. I was there for 12 years. Those were 12 great years in my life. I loved every one of them with the Giants; the people that I worked with, where I lived, our community. Two of my kids were born there, so there are a lot of fond memories there, absolutely. Tom and the relationship on the coaching staff with those guys, especially on defense, with Romeo [Crennel] and Al [Groh] and so forth. I think that came out in the whole piece in the interview there the last time I was in that facility. It was certainly an emotional moment that struck a lot of chords. That was a big, big part of my career and my life.

Belichick was with the Giants from 1979 to 1990, starting as a special teams coach and defensive assistant. He later became the linebacker coach before finishing his tenure there as the defensive coordinator. He worked with current Giants head coach Tom Coughlin from 1988-90, when Coughlin was then the wide receiver coach. It is safe to say that even before the two head coaches squared off in the NFL, they were quite familiar with one another.
