The 2012 Super Bowl has suffered its first injury casualty, though it is admittedly not a major one. New England Patriots tight end Dorin Dickerson has been placed on the practice squad/injured reserve list, leaving the Pats thin at the position in practice with Rob Gronkowski nursing an ankle injury.
The roster move does leave an open spot on the active roster. Pats Pulpit suggests that the Patriots may bring up another able-bodied tight end, perhaps Garrett Mills, to fill the void. At the moment, Aaron Hernandez is technically the only practicing tight end that New England has at the moment.
Dickerson was a seventh-round draft pick by the Houston Texans in 2010 before winding up on the Patriots' roster this season. At 6-3, 227 pounds, he has the ability to play either tight end or wide receiver if he can continue to earn a roster spot.
