Super Bowl 2012: Rob Gronkowski's Injury Could Mean Special Cleat For Patriots TE

While it's still up in the air whether or not New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will play against the New York Giants in the Super Bowl, there was one interesting bit of information to come out of the media day discussions on Tuesday.

Gronkowski might wear a special cleat that could cut down on swelling (via ESPN):

Gronkowski said the team will look into the possibility of a specialized cleat for his left foot. Sometimes teams are able to make a shoe that protects the ankle in the event of swelling during the game.

The tight end said "we're going over that tonight, so we will see with the training staff."

Gronkowski is also concerned with making sure he is in "football shape," since he hasn't done much cardio or working out in recent days due to the injury. In the meantime, he's preparing as if he'll play.
