After Jerry Jones' mad rush to break the all-time Super Bowl attendance record in Dallas last season, which ended with hundreds of fans complaining they were sold tickets to seats that hadn't been built in time for the game, the NFL lowered its sights in 2012.
The Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, which has a normal seating capacity of 63,000, was expanded to 70,000 for the NFL's big game.
That mark was far lower than 2011, when Jones ended up stuffing 103,219 fans into the Death Star in Arlington, falling only 766 behind the NFL's all-time record for Super Bowl attendance, which was set in the Rose Bowl in the 1980 game between the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Nor does it seem like the league has any real interest in matching Jones' grandiosity in the near future, as the next three Super Bowl locations -- the Superdome, the Meadowlands and the University of Phoenix Stadium -- all have maximum seating capacities of around 80,000.
