Thibodeau is 112-36 in his two years as head coach of the Chicago Bulls, finishing both seasons as the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Both seasons, however, ended in disappointment, with a conference finals loss to the Miami Heat in 2011 and a first-round defeat in 2012 following the season-ending injury of star point guard Derrick Rose.
The 54-year-old Thibodeau was an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics when he was hired by the Chicago Bulls prior to the 2010-2011 season. He had been an assistant coach on several NBA teams since 1989. Thibodeau coached the league MVP in Derrick Rose and won NBA Coach of the Year honors in 2011 and finished second in the award voting in 2012. He is the fastest coach in league history to reach 100 wins.
