Nationals' fans react to 8-0 Game 3 loss

It was the first playoff game in Washington D.C. since the Great Depression, and Washington Nationals fans were treated to a humiliating 8-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The folks over at SBNation's Nationals affiliate Federal Baseball vented appropriately:

Worst. Game. Ever.

hate to say it, but a thousand time yes.

it’s downright depressing to see your beloved team finally get a home game in the national spotlight in front of its largest crowd in history and get h-u-m-i-l-i-a-t-e-d. at no point in this game did it seem like the nats were competitive. just so painful to watch…

Sadly, I'm used to it.

Yeah, it was miserable to watch

I don’t regret going to the game, seeing as it was the first in DC since 1933, and for that, I’ll always remember it, but it was really not fun to be honest. I keep trying to look for silver linings and upsides….Desmond, maybe? The offense has just completely disappeared (again, aside from Desmond); the glass-half-full take would be that at least they were making consistent contact even if it rarely resulted in an actual hit. I don’t know that last time I’ve seen so many flyballs and pop-ups. I know people keep characterizing EJax’s start as rough, and it was, but after the shaky start, he settled down. Four runs shouldn’t be insurmountable, and most of the time, it hasn’t been. It doesn’t matter how stellar the pitching is if the offense can’t even push one measly run across the plate.

I’m still trying to stay hopeful for tomorrow, but until then, I’m not looking forward to all the blathering about the Strasburg Shutdown. It’s going to be insufferable.

I think we can all agree:

We would’ve won this game if Stras was pitching.
Nats 0
Cards -2

we would've clinched in game 1 if he started

Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion man

False

MLB would skip straight to the Nats celebrating their World Series victory.

What changes tomorrow?

Detwiler – who is not so great against righties – on the mound against a scorching Cards’ lineup. That alone is reason to be worried. Combine that with the struggles of half the regular lineup (Harper, LaRoche, Espinosa, and Suzuki) and it looks like a disaster in the making.

Can Davey switch anything up? Lombo for Espinosa? Flores for Suzuki? Or do we just hope that Ross pitches the game of his life and the bats reawaken?

That is the worst I’ve felt at Nats Park in a while.

I take some solace from the fact that at least this is not happening against Atlanta

That’s about the only thing which would sully this season for me.
