Cincinnati will be without its best defensive player today against Toledo, possibly longer. Walter Stewart sustained an injury against Fordham and could be out for a while.
Cincinnati, in the midst of an undefeated season and making yet another run at a Big East title, received bad injury news on the morning of its road game at Toledo. Walter Stewart, the team's defensive leader and best pass rusher, will not play according to Bill Koch on Cincinnati.com. Koch writes:
Senior defensive end Walter Stewart will not play due to an undisclosed upper body injury that he suffered in last week’s game against Fordham. Stewart continued to play after sustaining the injury.
There’s no word yet on how long Stewart will be out, but indications are that it will be for more than this game. That’s a huge blow for a UC team that faces a six-game stretch of Big East Conference games beginning next week at Louisville.
While it might not make a great deal of difference against Toledo tonight, not having Stewart in the lineup next Friday night at Louisville for a game between possibly unbeaten, ranked Big East rivals would be an enormous loss.
