Duke-North Carolina football: A story of triumph told through images

Stay connected with SB Nation

This crazy reception, fumble, second fumble, and score temporarily gave North Carolina the lead tonight against Duke. The Blue Devils answered and gave their fans reason to storm the field.

Duke and North Carolina met in one of the most exciting games of the day. No, no, this is college football I'm talking about here. First there was this catch, fumble recovery, re-fumble, recovery for a touchdown that briefly gave North Carolina the lead against Duke.

But Duke wasn't done. With the game on the line, Duke took the lead on this touchdown pass with less than 20 seconds remaining. It would prove to be enough to win the game. Duke's second victory in thirteen tries against North Carolina.

The Duke coaches, they were excited.

The Duke players, yeah, they were excited, too.

Duke fans then rushed the field, celebrating the school's first bowl-eligible season since 1994, when Duke went 8-4 under head coach Fred Goldsmith and lost in the Hall of Fame bowl to Wisconsin.

It's no comfort to North Carolina fans who lost to one of their most bitter rivals at the last moment, but David Cutcliffe resurrecting Duke football after battling through career and health issues of his own is why we all love college football.
