Club America vs. Chivas Guadalajara, 2012 Super Clasico: Halftime score 1-1, goals traded in entertaining match

Update: America 1-3 Chivas, final score.

Chivas Guadalajara and Club America can both be happy with their performances in the first half of the Super Clasico, and both will feel like they have the arsenal to go for the victory in the second half. Chivas stunned America with the opening goal at Estadio Azteca, but Juan Carlos Medina fired his club back into the match shortly afterwards, and it's tied up 1-1 at halftime.

Fabian's goal was practically gifted to Chivas when America fell asleep defensively on a throw-in. The home side had been on top for the majority of the game until they were caught out by the throw in the 35th minute. Fabian nodded in from inside the box, scoring in unorthodox fashion.

America's assertive play paid off with Medina's 41st minute equalizer, a fantastic finish into the top corner at the far post, from 12 yards. He faked out Luis Michel before placing the ball past the helpless goalkeeper to level the match.

It's been an unsurprisingly open affair thus far. If either team nets a go-ahead goal in the second half, they might want to move to solidify their midfield. At the moment, neither team looks like they have one.

Club America vs. Chivas Guadalajara, 2012 Super Clasico: Lineups

Club America and Chivas Guadalajara aren't pulling any punches for Saturday's Super Clasico matchup. Both teams have gone conservative and with five-man back lines at times this year, but they've come out with very attacking formations for this match. Don't expect either side to keep a clean sheet.

Chivas have handed a start to Marco Fabian, who was a slight injury doubt heading into this match. Their lineup looks like a 4-4-2, but Miguel Angel Ponce can play wide or in the center, while Fabian can play wide or as an attacking midfielder. Their lineup is probably a 4-4-2 with wingers who will cut in, but it could end up being a formation with no wingers at all. America will rely heavily on Rosinei to do the job of two men in the center.

Club America starting lineup (4-1-3-2): Hugo González; Adrián Aldrete, Aquivaldo Mosquera, Diego Reyes, Paul Aguilar; Rosinei; Rubens Sambueza, Daniel Montenegro, Juan Carlos Medina; Cristian Benitez

Chivas Guadalajara starting lineup (4-4-2): Luis Ernesto Michel; Victor Perales, Omar Esparza, Hector Reynoso, Miguel Angel Ponce; Marco Fabian, Jorge Enriquez, Paulo Araujo, Jesús Sánchez; Erick Torres, Rafael Márquez Lugo

Kickoff is at 6 p.m. ET on Univision.
