The Star-Ledger-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed linebacker Brian Cushing is out for the season with a torn ACL, suffered in the Texans' 23-17 win over the Jets in Week 5.
Cushing was in pursuit of Jets running back Bilal Powell in the second quarter of the game Monday night when he was on the receiving end of a low block from Jets' offensive lineman Matt Slauson. Cushing went down immediately as Powell was taken down for a 3-yard gain.
Some will question the legality of the hit, which was not penalized. While Cushing was actively involved in the play, he was far enough away from it where some skepticism seems warranted.
What is does for the 5-0 Texans remains to be seen. Houston is allowing 14.6 points per game - 4th-best in the NFL - and 275.6 points a game, 3rd-best in the league. Cushing leads the Texans with 22 tackles on the year, and has one interception and one forced fumble.
