Rockies managerial search likely to last another week

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

The Colorado Rockies want to conduct more extensive interviews with prospective candidates for their vacant manager position.

The Colorado Rockies are still working without a manager, and it may be another week before a decision is made.

The Rockies are making sure all bases are covered in their managerial search, and that means more extensive interviews with candidates Jason Giambi, Walt Weiss and Matt Williams, according to Thomas Harding of mlb.com.

Giambi has emerged as an interesting candidate for the position vacated by Jim Tracy. The 41-year-old former MVP has been with the Rockies since 2009, serving as a left-handed pinch-hitter and backup first baseman.

Weiss played shortstop for the Rockies from 1994 to '97. The 14-year veteran retired after the 2000 season has served as a special adviser and roving instructor for the Rockies in recent years.

Matt Williams has been with the Arizona Diamondbacks' coaching staff since 2010, serving as third base coach for the past two seasons. He is currently managing the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League.
